Digital Ronin

Are you a modern day rōnin?

rōnin (浪人, “drifter” or “wanderer”) was a samurai without lord or master during the feudal period (1185–1868) of Japan. A samurai became masterless from the death or fall of his master, or after the loss of his master’s favor or privilege. The word rōnin literally means “wave man”. It is an idiomatic expression for “vagrant” or “wandering man”, someone who is without a home. In modern Japanese usage, the term also describes a salaryman who is unemployed or a secondary school graduate who has not yet been admitted to university. – Wikipedia.com

As a descendant of generations of rōnin on my dad´s side. I feel like I´m a genetic experiment. Bred to be an adaptable right-hand man, dedicated servant or trusted bodyguard, rōnin were masterless samurai who numbered in the thousands when the feudal system ended in Japan.  True rōnin were masterless samurai that adhered to the ‘Bushido‘, or ‘way of the warrior’, a code which guided their careers, motivations and honed their sheer determination to accomplish their mission.

Rōnin today are known as wanderers or someone adrift looking for somewhere to anchor. Students from major universities are called ronin nowadays if they don´t get or accept a job from a major company.

With the digital nomad phenomenon so prevalent today. Digital rōnin are those of us who accept and cherish this way of life but take it further and who have a code to live by. To take on assignments that take you to far corners of the world or even your state, and to touch people along the way. The idea is to be free and independent in your career and lifestyle, while helping others to achieve their goals while sharing agape (Latin for ‘brotherly love’).

Travel in the blood

Traveling cross-country since 3-years old accompanied, since 5 alone and organizing my first group trip at 8, I felt the call to move at an early age…and have never stopped for too long since.

After 10 countries lived, 5 languages attained and 100´s of side trips, I´ve learned how to savor the great times and weather the tough ones, attempting to attain the same intensity of positive-attitude and determination that my ancestors wielded. While my own integrity, physical prowess and intensity of purpose may not come near to theirs, I know what it means to go somewhere you have never been, set up shop and not only thrive, but to excel and to meet, help and connect others. As a Motivational Marketing and Webdesign Coach I have been able to help people, touch lives, promote businesses and realize a lot of dreams.
